Beethoven’s anniversary year in 2027 offers the perfect opportunity for great musicians to get together to celebrate his music. For this concert, Beethoven’s compositions will be in the expert hands of Lang Lang, one of the best pianists of our time, and the Gewandhausorchester conducted by Andris Nelsons. We are delighted that this exceptional orchestra is happy to travel from its home city of Leipzig, where many of Beethoven’s works were published and performed, to celebrate the grand master of Viennese Classicism here in Düsseldorf. In the first of two concerts, their programme pairs up two of Beethoven’s third works. His famous Third “Eroica” Symphony in the heroic key of E flat major is coupled with his Third Piano Concerto, in which Beethoven for the first time writes for orchestra and piano as equal partners. It is the perfect showpiece for Lang Lang!
