Here at Heinersdorff, we can’t imagine New Year’s Eve without Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. And why should we even try? After all, it is a well-loved tradition in Düsseldorf to ring out the old year with Beethoven’s exhilarating last symphony. Every year since 2015, Christoph Spering has invited music-lovers to join him in bringing the year to a joyful close at the Tonhalle together with his ensembles, Chorus Musicus Köln and Das Neue Orchester. From our point of view, we could happily carry on doing this for at least another ten years. What could be better than Beethoven’s revolutionary masterpiece to send out a positive message for the future? His celebration of joy, life and peace gives voice to all we could possibly wish for in the New Year.
